Inside MAPG

An International Geological Organization

Since its founding in 1997, the Moroccan Association of Petroleum Geologists has been a pillar of the Moroccan geoscientific community. The original purpose of MAPG, to foster scientific research, to advance the science of geology, to promote technology, and to inspire high professional conduct, still guides the Association today.
Affiliated to AAPG, currently the MAPG is the largest professional geological society in Morocco. Anticipated to count over 500 members, MAPG provides publications, conferences, and educational opportunities to geoscientists in Morocco and surrounding region and disseminates the most current geological information available to the general public.
MAPG supports a code of ethics for professional geologists to assure employers and clients of the integrity of its members.
The Association is guided by an Executive Committee elected bi-annually. The organization's programs are administered by the Executive Committee and staff located in Rabat.

About Our Membership

MAPG, an international geological organization, has members in Morocco and  around the world. Included among its members are geologists, geophysicists, CEOs, managers, consultants, students, and academicians.

MAPG  PUBLICATIONS

As the premier publisher of petroleum and energy-related geoscience, MAPG produces materials in several formats to meet the needs of the professional geoscientists. Members and non-members alike are encouraged to submit papers to be considered for publication. Among MAPG’s publications are.

*MAPG Bulletin, a technical journal,  on geoscience and the associated technology of the energy industry, that is received in print or online by all members.

MAPG Professional Education.

Visiting Geologists Program- This volunteer effort provides MAPG members, who are outstanding members of the geoscience community with an effective vehicle for visiting colleges and universities around Morocco. The visiting geologists provide up-to-date information on geological career options and path planning, small group discussion, and current technical information from the speaker’s   area of expertise.

MEETINGS & Conferences

For geoscience meetings, the Association offers events that are designed to keep geoscientists abreast of the latest developments in science, industry and technology, and that provide top-notch networking opportunities. Various students’ activities are also hosted at these events. All MAPG members are eligible for a discounted rate when registering.

MAPG’s International Conference and Exhibition


This event offers hundred of top-quality technical presentations in strategic cities located Morocco and surrounding region. Scheduled in Spring or Fall, the conference is also complemented by an exhibition where worldwide technologies and vendors converge for viewing by thousands of both industry and academia professionals.

Field Seminars

Field trips provide unique opportunities to explore and study world class outcrops in Morocco. MAPG has organized successful and highly appreciated field trip across the Atlas fold belt to Dhahran Geological Society and Saudi Aramco geologists and plans to organize many others in the future.

MAPG Home Page – the MAPG home page, now under construction, is the place to begin when looking for up-to date information about the Association and professional matters. Internet services include online registration for membership, registration for meetings and events, previous of upcoming articles and publications, and the Members Only section provides a directory of other members, a link to pay dues and keep your information current with MAPG… just to name a few features.

PROGRAMS for Students


One of the vital functions of MAPG is to provide resources for students at both the graduate and undergraduate level.  These programs provide opportunities for students to have contact with the professional geoscience community, to have access to unique learning and leadership opportunities and to receive member benefits.
Student member benefits include an online subscription to the MAPG Bulletin and discounts on publications, courses, and conferences.

Members of MAPG are eligible for a variety of benefits. In addition to subscriptions to the Bulletin, and discounts on publications, meetings and courses, each members is eligible for:

MAPG Membership Classifications

Active Members

To become an Active Member of MAPG , the applicant needs a degree in geological science and a minimum of three year’s experience in the professional practice or teaching or geology. Additional education or professional activity can alter these requirements. Only Active Members may vote or hold office in the Association.

Associate Members

Any person not qualified for any other class of membership who is a graduate of a college of acceptable academic standards whose employment is associated with geology, may apply for election as an Associate.

Student Members

Those students majoring in geology or a related field at a college of acceptable academic standards are eligible to become student members.

Reinstatement

Former members of any classification, whose membership has lapsed for any reason except ethical considerations, may apply for reinstatement.
